Anatomy

The thyroid is an endocrine gland located in the neck anteriorly, that is in the front. In the adult it weighs between 25-30 gm. It is usually formed of two lobes lying by the sides of the trachea, connected by an isthmus. The location of the isthmus is variable, makiing the gland anyhting from and H to a U and sometimes is totally absent. The usual location fo the isthmus is in front of the second to the fourth tracheal rings. The lobes are about 50mm long and the isthmus about 15mm. A conical pyramidal lobe often ascends from the isthmus or the adjacent part of either lobe (more often the left) toward the hyoid bone.

Disclaimer...Sort of.

Welcome to a barebones piece on the thyroid gland. DO NOT DO ANYTHING BY YOURSELF just because you read it here. That is for your doctor to decide. This is just a sort of intro.
